We can get first night nerves about anything whether that’s sex, a presentation we have to do to our friends or colleagues at work, or appearing in the local amateur dramatic production.
Ask yourself, or even better write down, “What is it I’m worried about?” When we write things down it helps us better understand the problem.
Phrase the right question
Phrasing the right question and then writing it down often takes you half way to the answer.
Whether it’s about contraception, your body shape, or uncertainty about some aspect of the relationship, write down “What’s the problem?". Then write down "What are the possible solutions to this problem?" Even if you don't come up with solutions straightaway, just let your brain work on it in the background. Our subconscious often works on things overnight. When we say "I'll sleep on it" it's actually a very good strategy. While you're sleeping your subconscious will come up with at least one solution if not more.
